We’ve just launched a new application for Trovit users who have Android cell phones. This application allows users to search for property from their phone while they’re out and about. Through a Google Maps integration and using GPS or GSM geolocation, the application shows the properties on the Trovit database that are located near the user.
The application can be downloaded from the Android Market (a service that allows users to automatically download and install applications for their cell phone). Once installed, it will display nearby properties. Users can also filter the search (by type: for sale or for rent, and by price, area or number of bedrooms) as well as save their favourite properties for future reference. The map refreshes automatically as the user moves.
The Trovit application is available in the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, France, Poland, the US, the UK and Italy.
The application was developed in record time by the team at and.roid.es (who also posted the news on their blog) and it was great working with them! and.roid.es has been following Android OS developments for nearly two years, and they’ve managed to create the largest Spanish-speaking Android community. They’ve also organized several Android events and development courses.
We hope you find this application useful! and.roid.es have prepared a launch video (in Spanish) explaining how the application works:
A few days ago we released the advanced search options, which allow you to set additional filters for your search. For example, you can write the city you’re interested in, the number of rooms or bathrooms you need, the maximum mileage you want in the car, etc.
We hope you like these new options, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any comments.
I’m sure most of you know Facebook, one of the largest social networks in the world. And you probably know too, a few weeks ago they allow everyone to create applications that can be used by all Facebook users and shared with friends.
We loved Facebook’s new feature and decided to create a Trovit application for all our Facebook users, which allows you to search for homes, jobs or cars in any of the countries where we’re present (currently six, UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Portugal) and in any of the six languages available (is this the first multi-language application for Facebook?)
Also, your last searches on the Trovit application will be shown on your profile in Facebook. This has several advantages, as for example:
- If you are looking for a job in marketing in London, someone in your Facebook network might see that you’re searching for that kind of job and can put you in contact with someone else who is looking for a person with your profile.
- If you are looking for a given make and model of car, someone on your network might see what you’re looking for and know who has it for you.
Take a look at the following screenshot of the Trovit application running in Facebook:

This week we have launched myTrovit, which allows you to save your favorite searches and ads and access them from any computer. You will also be able to add notes to the ads you have saved: for example, you can write the time and date when you are going to visit one appartment you’re interested in, or how the interview for the job you want went.
When you login in myTrovit, you will also be able to define the number of ads you want to see in each results page and your preference for opening ads in new window or the same window.
If you use Google Earth (and if you don’t you should check it out, you’ll be amazed by it) you can now get your Trovit Homes search results in Google Earth.
To get your homes for rent or for sale in Google Earth you only have to type a search on Trovit Homes and on the top-right part of the search results page you will see a new icon with the shape of a blue ball. You just have to click on that icon and Google Earth will open (if you have it installed on your computer, of course) and will show you the homes for rent or for sale that match your search.
Needless to say, if you don’t use Google Earth you can also find your home in Trovit’s maps or use any of the other options we offer, like RSS alerts, email alerts or even instant messenger alerts.
You know you can search for homes, cars and jobs on our websites, by email, by RSS and even using our Firefox plugin. Now you can also use your Instant Messenger, in order to receive alerts on your Google Talk or MSN client.
It’s really easy to use, you just have to add the following users to your friends list and type HELP to know the list of commands the bot is able to understand.
The usernames for Google Talk are:
homes.trovit.co.uk@gmail.com – for homes cars.trovit.co.uk@gmail.com – for cars jobs.trovit.co.uk@gmail.com – for jobs
The usernames for MSN are:
homes.trovit.co.uk@hotmail.com – for homes cars.trovit.co.uk@hotmail.com – for cars jobs.trovit.co.uk@hotmail.com – for jobs
You can perform searches directly using your Google Talk or MSN client, and create or delete custom alerts. Soon, it will run also with Yahoo! Messenger, Skype and ICQ. We hope you like it.
As you have probably seen, a few days ago we added filters to our searches of homes and cars.
When you search for a home, you can filter your results by publication date, price, floor area, number of rooms and bathrooms and property type. When you set a filter, it will show up in the upper part of the left column, surrounded by a blue border; in the example, we have set filters for price and number of rooms. If you want to remove that filter, just click on the “X” next to it or use “Undo all” to remove all the filters.
In Trovit Cars you can filter your searches by publication date, price, mileage, fuel, year, transmission type of number of doors.
One word of advice regarding filters: as you know, not all of the ads include all the information: for instance, some sources do not have the floor area for homes. As a result, when you filter for a given range of floor area, ads that do not have that information will not show up in the search.
We hope you all like this new improvement and that it allows you to find the ads you’re looking for.
Once you add the gadget to your homepage you can define a search for homes, cars or jobs and the gadget will continuously update its results, check out this screenshot:
If you want to add Trovit to your homepage, just click on the button:
Another nice thing of Google Gadgets is that they can be included in any webpage (for example, your own blog). For example, we have included here a search for journalist jobs in London:
If you want to add a Trovit Gadget to your website just go here, you will be able to personalize the search query, size of the gadget and colors and then you will get a short code that you can just copy-paste to your website and you’re done!
If you are one of the many users of Netvibes, we have created a new module that will allow you to search on Trovit from your personalized Netvibes home page.
Once you have added the module to your home page, you only have to select your country, the type of ad you want to search (jobs, homes for rent, homes for sale or used cars), type a search query and you will instantly see the latest ads that match your query, just like the following screenshot.
If you want to add this module to your home page, you can go to the module’s page on Netvibes or you can simply click on the following button:
For those of you who use Firefox as your browser of choice, we have developed these search plugins, which will add Trovit search to the search engine menu in the top right corner of your Firefox browser.
